S1 E31: Where in the World is Marquail?

In our last Episode, our heroes began standing over the dead body of the Scarlet Brotherhood agent Mothire.  Deciding that it might not present a good image to be found standing ovaer a dead body, the party instead decapitated  him to take his head with them.

Escaping by a secret door to exit the Kill Pit, the NAB headed West toward Crispen Emberfury’s hometown of Barakhat.  Heading off-road to rest, and cast Leomund’s Tiny Hut for protection, the party used their usual ‘beheaded ‘Speak with the Dead’ method, to find out that Mothire reported to Ennen Rathicor, and learning of the code that is used for secret communication for their nefarious assignments within the cells Assassins.

With this knowledge, the party decided to have Sariel Ashegarden use Scrying on Ennen Rathicor. Seeing Ennen Rathicor at a desk, writing secret notes in Orcish, when Antonius Sabia walks in. While they discussed his failings in killing members of the NAB, a Red-Robed figure, with white hair and grey eyes, appears from a portal.   Antonius, and offering one more chance to take care of the ‘little one’. The figure portals back somewhere, and disappears. Using the Raven’s Crystal Ball, she used Mind Reading on Ennen, learning that she dislikes and plots against her colleagues and boss, Sula Dani, confirming for the first time that she was the Red-robed figure.

With Talfeth Truestorm distracting the rest of the party with a raucous drinking game, Brynn Avelie used the Mirror of the Past to focus on Crispen’s mother Feyrina. Crispen verified that he buried her, but the Mirror revealed the shocking truth that Feyrina may be alive. Keeping this info to herself for now, the party settled down for a rest.

The next morning, back on the road, the party, on foot. They are offered a ride on an empty wine cart driven by Gezu, a Dragonborn and Asus, a halfling. Making much better time, the party found an off-road spot to settle down for the night.

While cooking near a campfire, Birch the Rogue decided to scout around activating  his Boots of Speed.  This proved to be auspicious since he spotted 3 humanoids spying on the camp. Turning invisible and stealthing nearer, Birch heard their attack plan.

With this fore-knowledge, the party was able to turn the tides on these would-be assassins, dispatching them in quick order, and taking the one living would-be assassin, Sunanai, a prisoner.  Searching Sunanai’s dead colleagues, the party gained some magical items, identifying an Amulet of Health and Ring of X-Ray Vision.

Through threats and some persuasion, Sunanai revealed their assignment came from Ennen, who would teleport assassins nearby to the party, using some method of tracking the party’s location. He revealed. Their target was Marquail, to kidnap him and use that as leverage against his father the Governor.

Deciding to bypass Barakhat, the NAB heads north to the arranged meeting at The Lewd Pilgrim in the city of Kale Sosis.

Arriving at the Inn, Sunanai had begun giving instructions on how the meet would go, when suddenly a red portal appears with no warning and, with a look of shock on his face, Marquial is sucked into the portal and disappears. At this exact moment, another red portal appears and Tiefling, with red skin and black hair, wearing robes, is thrown out and lands face down.

Now we resume with the adventures of the NAB. Party, what do you do?
